Things Tourists Often Do Wrong (And How to Avoid Them)

🚫 Don’t think that Berlin is the same as Germany; it has a very different culture.  Taking cabs instead of public transportation? The U-Bahn is your best buddy.  Berlin demands time; trying to fit everything into two days is hard.  Not bringing cash—some locations still don’t take cards.

 Tips for smart budgeting

With a Berlin Welcome Card, you can get unlimited transportation and museum savings.  Get breakfast at the bakery for €3.  It’s okay to drink in parks (indeed, it is).

Avoid eateries that are popular with tourists in Mitte; Kreuzberg Neukölln has superior and cheaper ones.

 Tips for packing for Berlin

🧥  Bring a jacket; even in the summer, nights can be cold.  Berlin is big, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes.  Small umbrella (the weather is unpredictable) 🎧  If you live near clubs, get earplugs.  More memory for your camera means you can take pictures all the time.

Friendliness for remote work and content creators

Berlin is a great place for artists and those who work online.

✅ Lots of cozy cafés with Wi-Fi ✅ Co-working spaces like Betahaus or Factory Berlin ✅ A community that is open-minded and has events, meetups, and a digital culture  Great neighborhoods: Mitte, Kreuzberg, and Prenzlauer Berg. Nearby Add-On Experiences: kayak along magnificent waterways in the Spreewald Forest.  Potsdam: a day trip to lakes and castles  Sachsenhausen Memorial: learn about history with respect  Teufelsberg: an old spy post with amazing views

Respect Checklist (Etiquette for the Environment and Culture)

At memorial places, please be quiet and don’t use flash when taking pictures. Berlin takes recycling seriously—do it well!  Do not cross the street without looking—people in the area respect the rules of the road. After 10 PM, keep the noise down in residential areas. Always ask before taking pictures of individuals, especially street performers.

How Berlin Has Changed Over the Years

This place has changed a lot since the war, but it hasn’t forgotten its past. It has gone from being a city with wounds from war and a split wall to one of Europe’s most lively cultural capitals.  It is still changing—new, experimental, and full of surprises.

My own experience and final thoughts

Berlin impacted me harder than any other city.  It isn’t glamorous; it’s rough, energetic, and full of layers.  I loved how I could go from edgy street art to baroque domes in one afternoon, dance until 5 AM, and then have the finest vegan brunch of my life at a secret café.

Not everyone will like Berlin. But if you do get it, you’ll never forget it.
